In Wingless Luke fixes Nathan’s computer with just a touch. I gotta tell you, I wish I could shrink Luke and keep him in my pocket. Stuff is falling apart all the time in my house, from the computer to the floors. I need his magic touch!

In Wingless April has a thing for the Disney castles. She’s been to Disneyland, but not Disney World. She’d love to go.
Me? I want to go eo Disneyland one more time. My favorite restaurant is there, the Blue Bayou. Also, I want to go to Japan and meet Tite Kubo, manga author and artist. I want to see the cherry blossoms in the spring, a Tao drum show, and fan dance.
I’d also like to go to North Carolina, because that is where my Cherokee blood is from. Scotland, because I want so much to see a castle, and I’m Scottish. And New Orleans, just because.

In Wingless April dreams of Luke when she’s a teenager. She knows it was a series of dreams, but she also cannot deny that Luke really exists somewhere in the universe. Her faith is just that unshakable.
I’ve had dreams that have been so realistic that I thought they really happened. Mostly just conversation, though. Like I’ll think someone’s mom has passed because I dreamed they called and told me that. But, like an idiot, I was way wrong o.O
However, I’m not counting deja vu. That stuff seems to happen to everyone in my family 🙂 I never seem to remember those dreams until the event in real life occurs 😛 Life would be so much easier if I could see ten years into the future.

What would you do if you were having a delightful conversation with someone, only to realize that no one else could see your friend? How would you react? On my Facebook page I listed 4 common thoughts. Would you go get your head checked? Tell no one? Tell only your close friends, or shout it to the world?
Me? There’s no way I could keep something so cool a secret. I’d have to tell my close friends. If the spirit would have appeared to everyone then everyone was meant to know. But if it appeared only to me I would assume the spirit wants a certain level of discretion, so I definitely wouldn’t shout it to the world. Would I think I was crazy? Well, maybe a little. But I’d rather have faith than doubts 🙂
In Wingless, something similar happens to the characters. They each have their own reactions, for better or good. In the end, I would love to sit down and have dinner with a spirit.

The contest begins on facebook today! At one point in Wingless Luke and April fight over proper terminology- is it a lollipop or a sucker? Luke loves suckers. Cherry to be exact.
But April’s favorite treat is rocky road and croissants. Oh, but not together. Yuck 🙂 And Nathan’s favorite comfort food is chicken noodle soup.
I LOVE food, so of course I had to work in some tasty treats when my characters need comforting. I think of all my characters I would stick with April on this and go for the Rocky Road. Mmmm.

Ahhhh! The counter says two weeks until my first release! To celebrate I’ve decided to post a little something that has to do with Wingless- An inspirational character.
Luke, who’s featured on the cover, was inspired quite a bit by a character in an anime series called Clannad. Her name is Fuko.
Fuko is befriended by a group of friends in highschool. She usually keeps to herself, carving wooden stars for woodshop. At one point they all hear of a ghost that haunts the school, a girl who used to attend their class. Eventually they run into Fuko’s older sister. She tells them of her little sister Fuko, who’s been in a coma for the last two years.
One by one, the friends believe the sister. Some even go to visit Fuko’s body in the hospital. And each person that looses faith in Fuko can no longer see her. It was their faith that help them see her, have real contact with her, and keep their memories of her.
Luke is similar in the fact that he’s there, in a very tangible way, and then he’s not. What would you do if you became friends with someone, only to find out they aren’t really there?

I was asked this question recently, and I had to stop and think. I’ve written so many kinds of stories, and different things inspire them. It’s the same with my artwork, knitting, hat making, even cooking.
God and family have a huge stake in that claim, whatever it may be. With my knitting it’s usually a cause or season that spurs me on. With artwork it’s often my own characters that inspire me, or even a favorite anime. Cooking is more my taste buds that drive me. I want my food to taste good, but who doesn’t?
And writing? For Wingless it was a wonder of what the other side is like that drove me. For Gargoyle it was need of a close and cherished friend. For many it was a contest title or theme that inspired me. Often it’s a song.
Once I really recognized what inspired me that helped me to look at that object or person or event in a different way. Then, if I need to be inspired again I can seek out one of them. So I’m never truly stuck because I already have a list of thing that have inspired me in the past. I hope you know what has inspired you in the past so it may guide you in the future!

Only one more month until my first Novella, Wingless, is released. I’m so excited I’m celebrating with writing another manuscript! I’m following the advice of my favorite writer- Jeaniene Frost.
“My writing advice is simple – write. The more you write, the better you’ll get at it. Read a lot. Be prepared to revise your novel, because revising is part of the process. But until you’ve finished a novel and really gone over it several times, don’t look for an agent. Write first. Make sure you love it. Then jump into the publishing world 
”
So I’m writing again, in my never-ending quest to be a great author. My current manuscript is a series of shorts the first one tentatively titled “The Shadow Fan.” I do hope to one day be able to meet my favorite author and have her go- “Shelley Martin? Aren’t you the author that wrote…”
That would be so cool 😉
