What Inspires You?

I was asked this question recently, and I had to stop and think.  I’ve written so many kinds of stories, and different things inspire them.  It’s the same with my artwork, knitting, hat making, even cooking.

God and family have a huge stake in that claim, whatever it may be.  With my knitting it’s usually a cause or season that spurs me on.  With artwork it’s often my own characters that inspire me, or even a favorite anime.  Cooking is more my taste buds that drive me.  I want my food to taste good, but who doesn’t?

And writing?  For Wingless it was a wonder of what the other side is like that drove me.  For Gargoyle it was need of a close and cherished friend.  For many it was a contest title or theme that inspired me.  Often it’s a song.

Once I really recognized what inspired me that helped me to look at that object or person or event in a different way.   Then, if I need to be inspired again I can seek out one of them.  So I’m never truly stuck because I already have a list of thing that have inspired me in the past.  I hope you know what has inspired you in the past so it may guide you in the future!

  1. I find that all my inspiration normally comes from the way I feel. Whether it be a general mood I have one day or my reaction I have to a certain event. It’s always me trying to demonstrate my emotions in some expressive way 🙂

  2. My inspiration mostly comes from music and art.

  3. I think my inspiration is Type A personality inspired. Meaning, I’m going to keep at it until I get it right…or in this case, WRITE!

  4. Hmmmm . . . I’ve run into a strange source of inspiration that has me wanting to write again. A new friend of ours, who owns a company that publishes industry-specific magazines. When he heard I was creative writing major at BYU his first response was “What have you written?” with real interest in his voice. And then the writing bug bit me like it hasn’t in a long, long time. We’ll see where it leads. Right now the gears are just turning, and I’m not sure where it’ll lead. One thing’s for certain, though: it’s early to rise for me if I’m going to get anything on paper. (Well, the screen . . . ;o)

  5. (My answer to his question was simple: some short stories, and some poetry . . . but mostly I loved to help my floormates and friends get A’s on their papers. ;o)
